Joyce Marter has been in private practice as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) since 1998 and founded Urban Balance in 2004. Joyce received her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University and was awarded “Distinguished Alumni of The Year” in 2008. She was selected by Crain’s Chicago Business for the “40 under 40” list of 2010. She currently serves as President of the Illinois Counseling Association and is an award-winning, two-term Past President of the Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association.
Joyce is a blogger for The Huffington Post and PsychCentral and is a clinical supervisor for therapists-in-training at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. She is a public speaker and trainer for businesses, professional organizations and clinicians. Joyce has been consulted as a psychological expert on TV, radio and in various other media publications, such as The Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report and Inc Magazine.
