Time: 7:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.

Description: Anxiety symptoms can present in different ways, including perfectionistic tendencies, the need to control situations, overanalyzing someone's responses or behaviors, ruminating thinking patterns, and more. Anxiety can be episodic and specific, or it can be chronic and generalized. You may think you are alone, but you're not.

Group Objectives:

  • Learn about and identify common thought patterns and behaviors connected to anxious tendencies and various anxiety disorders
  • Explore the sources of anxious symptoms and potential ways to resolve them and/or improve coping strategies
  • Learn to communicate anxious thoughts with your support system and enhance assertives
  • Learn mindfulness-based strategies to improve day-to-day coping and reduce tendencies to return to anxious-based thinking patterns or behaviors

Expressive Art Virtual Workshop

Date: Saturday, April 18th, 2020.

Description: This workshop will facilitate participants in developing their unique expressive styles through an overview of abstract art.  Participants will learn how art can be used as an expressive emotional outlet. 

Group Objectives:

  • Receive an overview of different types of abstract art through art books
  • Learn basic principles and techniques used in the creative process such as expressive coloring and drawing
  • Design and create a small scale work of art and learn how to maintain an art journal or art portfolio as a self-care outlet

Young Women's Virtual Support Group

Description: This group will provide young adult women with the chance to process their experiences, questions, thoughts, and feelings openly, and receive feedback and support from other group participants. In addition, we will engage in weekly mindfulness activities to help strengthen our ability to stay grounded in the present moment in order to increase awareness and gain the most out of life. This is a space for young women to join in connection, wellness, and support!

Group Objectives:

  • Cultivate a safe space where women can connect with and empower one another
  • Achieve greater self-awareness, self-confidence, and inner strength
  • Process thoughts, feelings, and experiences among others who can relate
  • Learn and practice mindfulness skills to increase ability to remain present in moment

Discuss relevant social topics as they relate to women’s issues.

Description: This group is geared towards promoting relational fulfillment by improving communication skills in professional, family, friendship, and intimate relationships. Without open and clear communication, people often experience uncertainty, hurt feelings, resentment, and unmet needs. Group participants will work towards gaining insight into their own patterns as well as specific ways to improve their communication styles.

Group Objectives:

  • Identify ways to increase their use of open and clear communication skills
  • Learn how to increase assertiveness in response to unwanted requests
  • Learn specific Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills that promote effective communication
  • Practice communication skills outside of group and review experiences with the group

Parenthood also has its stressors and we are often called upon to focus primarily on the needs of our children and loved ones. Our own expectations, the perception of others, and societal demands can leave us feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, and defeated

This workshop will:

  • Identify methods to counter exhaustion.
  • Inspire you to invent and command your time, confronting the myth that there is no time.
  • Explore the symbiotic relationship between sacrifice and self-care.
  • Restore and fortify your connection to YOU by examining your identity and emerging desires for this stage in your life. Participants will clarify and organize their needs and strategize ways to meet them.
  • Provide mindfulness-based coping strategies to manage anxiety, stress and depressive symptoms.

Description: Anger is a healthy emotion in everybody’s life — when it’s expressed in an appropriate manner at the right time. Too often, many of us let anger get the better of us in arguments and emotional interactions with others. This group will help you better understand the roots of anger, and how to experience it in a way that is more healthy — both for you and those around you.

Group Objectives:

  • Develop anger management skills to figure out what anger is, why they get angry, and ways to prevent angry responses Identify anger, the myths surrounding anger and how bottled up feelings can lead to exaggerated outbursts
  • Educate you in the biological responses that trigger anger and make you more susceptible to aggression
  • Manage anger's impact on your body, mood, thoughts, and behavior in healthy ways
  • Explore the purpose of anger and how to take responsibility for your choices
  • Identify situations that can quickly escalate your feelings of anger and provide skills on how to communicate more effective

Day to day functioning, such as important conversations, making plans, and sharing responsibilities can be challenging. This group is designed to support caregivers and others supporting those who are chronically ill. Group participants can expect to share their stories, increase their resilience, and gain effective coping skills.

Group Objectives:

  • Engage in discussion with participants to strengthen support system
  • Identify coping strategies to reduce stress and increase resilience
  • Learn how to create healthy boundaries to provide support, while also maintaining self-care

During the weekly group sessions, you will also be able to find companionship from others who may understand what you are experiencing and develop coping strategies.
