Susan Schwendener is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works with children/adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She is experienced in working with individuals and families in crisis using strengths-based, solution-focused counseling interventions. Sue’s first objective is to provide a non-judgmental and safe place where clients can focus on concerns ranging from relationship and life transitions to career and workplace issues. She has post-graduate training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for mood and anxiety issues at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Pennsylvania and is a proponent of Positive Psychology, which concentrates on helping people flourish instead of focusing on mental illnesses. Sue earned her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with additional training in Family Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University. While working at Urban Balance, Sue is also the internship coordinator for Northeastern Illinois University’s four M.A. in Counseling programs. Sue practices mindfulness meditation and loves to cycle, run, and create art.
